Year 2000 Readiness

The Challenge: Evaluate and implement change as necessary to prepare the SCEM organization for a smooth transition of business processes, applications and systems to the year 2000.
The Solution: Englert Technology, Inc., working closely with Ms. Debra Mayson, Director of Business Continuity at SCEM, developed an overall strategy to ensure that SCEM was in fact ready to do business in the year 2000. Englert Technology provided the project manager and staff necessary to supplement SCEM's internal resources on this project.
Working with representatives across the SCEM enterprise, Southern Energy, Inc., and the Southern Company initiatives were tasked, executed and closed. All SCEM data processing and telecommunications equipment and software were inventoried and assessed as to year 2000 readiness. Non-compliant hardware or software was identified, and either replaced or upgraded to be year 2000 compliant.
SCEM's business partners were contacted individually to ensure that these business partners either were already year 2000 compliant, or had adequate measures underway to become year 2000 compliant in time.
Englert Technology supported an internal audit of activities and preparedness surrounding the whole year 2000-readiness issue. The audit of activities and preparedness passed with flying colors.
Englert Technology staff have worked with the company's business unit managers to prepare contingency plans that would be executed in the unlikely event year 2000 rollover problems were encountered.
The Year 2000 Readiness team has participated in a number of year 2000 test drills to continue to evaluate our systems operations. All tests have been successful.
Englert Technology staff have received and processed hundreds of requests from counterparties and vendors requesting information and verification of SCEM's Year 2000-readiness status. Our staff, working with the SCEM management and legal team has replied to all requests.
Through all phases of this project, Englert Technology has kept the SCEM management team fully informed of project status, readiness, issues and solutions.
Impact: The Southern Company Energy Marketing company is prepared to confidently move their business operations into the year 2000.
