Local Area Network Design,
Vendor Negotiations and Implementation
Client: Alternative Healthcare System, Inc. (AHS)
The Challenge: Design, procure and implement a local area network (LAN) for a client that was not familiar with the benefits provided by an enterprise-side, LAN solution.
The Solution: Englert Technology met with members of the AHS executive and operations teams to determine how familiar they were with LAN environments, what their requirements were and at what rate they forecast growth for the next five years. Englert Technology then inventoried existing personal computer and printing hardware to determine what equipment would be compatible within a LAN solution.
Englert Technology then designed a local area network solution, Ethernet, Novell based operating system solution. The recommended solution listed required hardware, wiring, and software. This information, once approved, was then placed in the form of a Request for Proposal that was provided to area network providers. Bids and proposals were received, and a vendor was selected for the implementation phase of the project. Englert Technology was retained as the project management firm to oversee the balance of the project.
All hardware, software, and wiring was procured and installed. The network was established, security measures were invoked, and the users of the system were trained. An AHS employee was trained to perform standard maintenance and security administration activities.
Impact: A fully integrated local area network was implemented allowing the client staff to share programs, information, and peripherals through the network in local and remote access modes.
